Certainly Not an Espresso Shot

Today was one of those mornings when I needed an extra-large cup of Joe, literally.

Some mornings, my prayer feels a little like an espresso shot. It may be a few quiet minutes, a simple “Good morning, Jesus,” a moment of gratitude, or a prayer asking Him to guide my day.

And you know what? That kind of prayer matters.

An espresso shot is not less than an extra-large cup of coffee. It is simply different. Sometimes, a few moments with Jesus are exactly what my heart needs. Other times, I need to linger a little longer.

Today was one of those mornings.

Today, I needed the extra-large cup.

I needed to slow down. To sit. To breathe. To be still with Jesus.

So, I sat with my coffee and Christ.

As I looked back over the past three months, something became very clear:

God has been walking beside me.

But there was something more.

As I sat quietly in His presence, I imagined looking into His gaze. In His gaze, I could see what I had been too busy to notice.

I saw His faithfulness.

I saw His patience with me.

I saw the moments when He carried me when I thought I was walking on my own.

I saw the doors He opened, the ones He gently closed, and the people He placed along my path.

And I also began to understand something about the people who had left my life.

Sometimes, what feels like losing someone is actually God making room.

Sometimes God removes people from our lives not because we have failed, but because He may be protecting us and leading us somewhere new. We may not understand the reason immediately, but with time, prayer, and trust, we can begin to see things differently.

Maybe I wasn't losing. Maybe God was making room.

Making room for the people He is preparing to bring into my life.

Making room for new experiences.

Making room for new opportunities.

Making room for new adventures.

Making room for the new paths Christ is leading me toward.

As I sat there with my coffee, I felt a quiet peace in my heart.

Not every ending is a loss.

Some endings are redirections.

Some closed doors may be protection.

And sometimes, a space is simply room for God to bring something new.

In His gaze, I was reminded that I don't need to know every detail of what comes next.

I only need to trust the One who does.

He has been walking beside me.

He is walking beside me now.

And He is already preparing the adventures that are still to come.

So, tomorrow morning, perhaps my prayer will be an espresso shot.

And that's okay.

Because prayer doesn't have to look the same every day.

Sometimes we need a few quiet moments with Jesus.

Sometimes we need to sit a little longer.

Sometimes we need to pour another cup of coffee, open our hearts, and stay awhile.

The size of the prayer doesn't matter. The relationship is.

Whether it is an espresso shot or an extra-large cup of Joe, what matters is that we make room for Christ.

Because He is already there.

Waiting for us.

And sometimes, when we finally slow down enough to sit with Him, we discover that what we thought was an ending was the beginning of a new adventure.

This morning, I was really struggling with prayer, feeling guilty and ready to give up. Then, as I came here to forward your latest blog to a friend, I noticed this post while scrolling. I sat down with my tea and took the time to read it. Thank you for sharing your personal experience with prayer. It came at just the right moment for me, and I truly needed that reminder today.
